Now Hiring: Bilingual Program Assistant

Inland Empire Waterkeeper, a nonprofit organization protecting the health of the Santa Ana River Watershed, is looking for an outgoing individual to join its team as a Spanish-speaking Bilingual Program Assistant. This position is responsible for identifying and attending community events, emphasizing outreach to Spanish-speaking populations, and assisting education programs, grant writing, communications, and more. The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and work effectively as a part of a team.

 

Job Responsibilities

Outreach Programs

  • Attend community events and clearly communicate to the general public
  • Identify a variety of outreach opportunities
  • Tabling at various community events (Earth Day, Coastal Cleanup Day)
  • Completing reports on event statistics and maintaining spreadsheets
  • Assist in leading cleanup events for volunteer groups, schools, companies, etc.
  • Assist in creating social media posts and writing monthly newsletters

Education Programs

  • Leading group activities such as water testing, habitat restoration, beach cleanups, and wetland monitoring
  • Keeping inventory of supplies, setting up equipment, and printing out field worksheets
  • Grading tests and reflection sheets and recording results
  • Curriculum development and improvement

Grant Writing

  • Researching web databases for grant/funding opportunities
  • Helping to write grant proposals and reports
 

Qualifications

  • Fluent in Spanish and English
  • Completed or in progress on a Bachelor’s Degree in Science: Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, Communications, or Education 
  • Some understanding of watershed and coastal issues
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Suite
  • Adept at writing and internet research
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work at Waterkeeper’s office in Riverside, remotely, and in the field

Preferred experience and skills:

  • Education or leadership experience with K-12 students
  • Adobe Acrobat, Canva, Photoshop, WordPress, general graphic design or website management
  • Scientific research
  • Grant or curriculum writing
  • Event planning experience
  • Video editing skills

Schedule, Compensation, and Benefits

This position is full-time, non-exempt, M-F, with frequent weekend work. Compensation is $21 per hour, 40 hours per week, with a review scheduled for six months. When weekend work is required, the Program Assistant’s schedule will be adjusted not to exceed 40 hours per week. IE Waterkeeper offers Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance, Vacation, and Sick Leave or a stipend if you are otherwise insured.
