River KATS: Kid Activism Together with Science
cm lil corona 2
IEWK provided two classroom presentations this month - at Washington Elementary in Riverside and Creekside Elementary in Moreno Valley.

At Creekside, it was a "career day" event so students learned about being a scientist, and we reinforced the mantra of not polluting and the difference between storm sewers and sanitary sewers. They also watched a simple pH test of their classroom water.

At Washington, high-performing 6th graders asked questions on environmental ethics, flooding history, native species, river health and pollution sources for their class project.

Activism & Advocacy
Autumn Leaves This month, IEWK submitted written comments on the Draft EIR for the Lakeview/Nuevo Master Plan for Water, Sewer and Recycled Water (Eastern Muni Water District); and the McAnally Chicken Ranch relocation project (Riverside County Planning). Also, we attended public meetings for the Mid-County Parway and the I-15 freeway expansion proposals.

We are currently reviewing the draft EIR/EIS for the Mid-County Parkway proposal, as it pertains to hydrology, water quality and wetland impacts.

We cannot possibly keep up with all development proposals, so feel free to send us information on projects that may impact water quality (info@iewaterkeeper.org).

It's the "Rainy Season" so we will start accepting tips of illicit or illegal runoff from construction, industrial, commerical or other sites.  Please feel free to contact us at info@iewaterkeeper.org complete with photos and/or detailed descriptions.
Thank you for your continued interest in Inland Empire Waterkeeper.
