Waterkeeper joined with 7 students from the IB Program at Raney Interm. School in Corona to perform turbidity measurements with a real Secchi disk in our Waterkeeper canoe at Prado Park Lake!

It was a beautiful morning, with dozens of different bird species in every direction.  We found an average visual depth of 33 inches in Prado Park Lake (from 7 readings).

This event was made possible through a generous donation from Malcolm Pirnie, Inc.
Upper Watershed Assessment Project
IEWK will be studying 10 sites on San Timoteo Creek, City Creek and Warm/Twin Creek in the San Bernardino area from now until November, 2009!

We will measure basic field data and collect samples for E. Coli analysis on a weekly basis.  Also, we will sporatically gather samples for metals, nutrients, minerals, pesticides and PCB analysis.

Say hello to IEWK's Field Tech, Eric if you see him in the field! Click HERE for project Web site.
Corona Groundwater Management Plan
Palm Tree
The City of Corona's Dept. of Water & Power has completed their Groundwater Management Plan (pursuant to AB 3030).

IEWK attended the last public workshop and submitted a list of written comments; most of which will be addressed in the coming EIR.  For more than 40 years, Corona has utilized 3 groundwater basins for a portion of its supply.

The goal of the plan is to, (1) operate the basins in a sustainable manner for beneficial uses, and (2) increase the reliability of water supply for basin users.  This will require increased infiltration of runoff, improvements to facilities and water conservation.
Cleanup Chino Creek & Mill Creek!
Need service hours?  Does your Scout Troop need an activity? We've got 30 acres filled with trash.  Call or email Autumn at (951) 689-6842 or Autumn@iewaterkeeper.org.  We are putting together a list of interested groups (preferably 16+ years of age) that can be "on-call" as cleanup teams for Chino Creek & Mill Creek.  If funding is confirmed, cleanups will begin late summer, early fall and must be done by Feb. 2009.

Watershed MapIn closing, you're welcome to take a *sneak peek* at the new map of Recreational Opportunities of the Santa Ana River Watershed at www.iewaterkeeper.org/watershedmap. Soon, every person who joins IEWK for a minimum $15 donation will be able to enjoy their own 24" x 42" beautiful wall map!  Wouldn't that look great in the company break room?

Please feel free to contact us at info@iewaterkeeper.org.  Thank you for your continued interest in Inland Empire Waterkeeper.
