Dear Friend,
CA mapPlease enjoy our May wrap-up!

Inland Empire Waterkeeper (IEWK) is a grassroots nonprofit water quality organization dedicated to enhancing and protecting the Upper Santa Ana River Watershed through advocacy, education, restoration and enforcement.  We look forward to working with concerned citizens like you to fulfill our mission.
Cleanup Chino Creek & Mill Creek!
Need service hours?  Does your Scout Troop need an activity? We've got 30 acres filled with trash.  Call or email Autumn at (951) 689-6842 or Autumn@iewaterkeeper.org.  We are putting together a list of interested groups (preferably 16+ years of age) that can be "on-call" as cleanup teams for Chino Creek & Mill Creek.  If funding is confirmed, cleanups will begin late summer, early fall and must be done by Feb. 2009.
Snapshot Day 2008 - A Success!
Greeted with bagels and juice, two teams of Riverside students from La Sierra High and King High started Snapshot Day 2008 with beautiful weather and flowing creeks!  Each team analyzed 4 locations on a total of 6 unique tributaries to our mighty Santa Ana River.

Using meters and kits, they measured:  pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, phosphate, ammonia, and temperature.  Most notable at all sites was the abundance of trash.  All 16 students were empowered to do more and asked, "Why do they hide our creeks?"

A report of the results is available here (PDF, 1273 KB) and photos on our website HERE.

Thank you to Ms. Hampton, Mr. Pitruzzello and Mr. Krick!  See you next May!
Watershed Signage Program

Santa Ana River Watershed Fwy SignA Web page is up on our website about the program HERE.
Now the Santa Ana River Watershed will welcome millions of freeway drivers each day on 12 different highways with 12 signs that say, Santa Ana River Watershed: Keep It Clean!

IEWK is working with Caltrans, SAWPA, Santa Ana Regional Board, local water districts and other stakeholders toward a program for installing 5' x 5' signs to let people know when they enter our watershed.  Along the SR-74, I-215 and I-15 we will also have 3 signs that say, San Jacinto River Watershed: Keep It Clean!

Each sign costs around $5,000 - sponsors needed!  More details to come. Call Waterkeeper, Lee Reeder at 951-689-6842.
